Real Madrid and Barcelona's curse

Over the past few years Madrid chased Barcelona to the La Liga title. Unfortunately for Los Merengues, they ended up with nothing in the last two years. There is no arguing that Real Madrid is the most successful club of the 20th century but that doesn’t seem to be the case in recent years.

After being humiliated back in November by Barcelona, Real Madrid lost the confidence and determination of a champion, especially in the primeria division. The question still remains; do Real Madrid have the slightest chance of winning La Liga? With Barcelona breaking all records that were previously broken by Real Madrid, it seems pretty hard.

Lets look at some records Barcelona broke this season:

- Team with most points at the end of the first half of the league with 52 points.

- They equaled the record of Di Stefano’s Madrid with 15 consecutive La Liga wins by beating Hercules.

- Scored the most league goals from the top 5 European leagues with 67 goals.

- Longest unbeaten run in all competitions with 28 games unbeaten

- Record of away wins with 10 consecutive victories.

- Messi scored 37 goals in 32 official games.

If Barcelona beat Athletico Madrid this Saturday, they will beat the record set by arguably the best team that ever existed. Which will open debate on Pep’s ‘dream team’ being the best side in footballing history. Moreover, Messi has become the fourth all-time goal scorer for Barcelona and at this young age, no one will be surprised if he becomes Barcelona’s all-time goal scorer. You can’t stop what can’t be stopped.

Without doubt Madrid have the best coach in the world and the one who is thought to be the ‘savior.’ After beating Barcelona with Internazionale last year, Madrid fans thought he would be the one who will crush Barcelona. Which seems harder day-by-day.

In the meantime, there are still 17 games and 51 points left in the Primeria Division. Which means we can’t jump to conclusions at this early stage, but we surely know one thing, this will be the hardest and longest year for Mourinho’s men.
