During this winter transfer market. In the Bundesliga, it has been really active with Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim being the most active on the market. Wolfsburg have signed 6 players, Hoffenheim signed 6 as well. They all fit the team perfectly. Bayern Munich signed only one player (Luiz Gustavo) while selling 5 players, most notably Van Bommel and Demicheles. Although they were not doing really well this season but the team could use their help with their football experience.
Van Gaal only signed one player this season and is constantly depending on the youth, looking for the next Badstuber/Muller. I believe the lack of experience would make the team disastrous. they have all seen at certain times how rather disappointing Contento, Breno and Alaba have been this season. I am not sure why Van Gaal refuses to sign any players though the squad is in need for a GK, CB and R/LM. Kraft (the new GK) has been disastrous and makes constant mistakes in the games he plays. Idiotic mistakes really.
The second issue is the number of players on the team and the injury prone players like Breno, Ribery and Robben. Right now the squad consists of 20 players and Olic out the rest of the season so that makes it 19. Remove Ribery and Breno and it makes 16, not even enough substitutes on the bench!
Now, they are 14 points behind the leader Borussia Dortmund and it is semi impossible to win the Bundesliga. Kagawa is injured but they have Blazckoweski, Zidan and Lewandowski to fill in which is more than enough. In recent years it has been really difficult for Bayern win against Schalke especially with Magath's tactics which is another reason why they probably won't win the German Cup. As for the Champions League, I would not be surprised if they lost to Inter Milan by a 4 goal margin.
It might be impossible for Bayern to win the Budesliga this season. I think the amount of injuries suffered from some of the key players is the problem. It would be interesting to see what Van Gaal does for next season.
ReplyDeleteHis relationship with the board is on thin ice and I believe if he did not win anything this year and was beaten on the 2nd round of the CL he may well be on his way out.
